Fresh Water Pearls

Fresh water pearls are formed in the mussel shell when a foreign body is place in the shell causing the mollusc to secrete layers of calcium carbonate, know as ‘nacre’ over the object forming the pearl
Pearls come in a variety of colours grey, pink, peach and cream are the only natural colours others are coloured by food in the water at time of feeding or are surfaced dyed after the pearl has formed .
There are also many different types of pearl creating variety of shapes and sizes from the more recognized irregular to biwa and keshi .
Due to the freeform shapes each pearl has its own setting made for it to be turned into a piece of jewellery.
